What is a Herniated Disc?
Herniated Discs occur when the jelly-like material in the center of the disc gets pressed beyond the wall of the disc and is forced out into the area where your spinal nerves reside. This can place pressure against a nerve and may cause pain or abnormal sensation in your arm or leg.
The diagnosis for a herniated disc is usually made with an MRI. Initial treatment usually consists of anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy. Most disc herniations resolve without surgery. If conservative treatment fails, surgery is usually very successful.
Surgery may include minimally invasive discectomy to get pressure off your spinal nerve, relieving pain and restoring your ability to lead an active lifestyle.
