About Dr. Jonathan Yun

Dr. Yun is a highly trained neurosurgeon with a primary focus on disorders of the spine and brain. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures which lead to faster recovery times and an early return to normal life. Most importantly, he offers procedures that prioritize patient safety and, importantly, focused symptom relief. By thoughtfully integrating advanced technology, such as computer-guidance systems, microscopic and endoscopic techniques, and robotic spine surgery, Dr. Yun ensures that his patients receive the most effective and up-to-date treatment options available. These include minimally invasive approaches to spine pathologies, ranging from decompressive procedures to instrumented spinal fusions and deformity correction.

Dr. Yun’s dedication to neurosurgery stems from a deep passion for improving lives through precision care. He views every patient interaction as an opportunity to first listen and educate, allowing him to recommend to his patients the best path forward. This focus on understanding a patient’s unique needs allows him to deliver personalized care tailored to the needs of his patients, which range from conservative options to minimally invasive procedures.

Whether through surgery or non-surgical solutions, Dr. Yun ensures patients are fully informed about their options, supported by clear explanations and evidence. He is deeply fulfilled by his role in guiding patients toward recovery, offering hope and healing for even the most complex spine conditions.

Lastly, he is happy to have returned to his native New Jersey to bring the highest level of University care to his community.

Training & Education

Dr. Jonathan Yun was raised in Ridgewood, NJ. He became interested in neurosurgery as a young medical student, recognizing the potential of surgical and nonsurgical treatment, technology and research in compassionate care and impacting patient’s lives.

Dr. Yun received his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience from The Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduation, he was inducted into Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Honor Society and Nu Rho Psi Undergraduate Honor Society for Neuroscience and was awarded general and departmental honors. Dr. Yun completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he graduated with honors and was elected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies.

His career in neurosurgery began his work with The Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital as a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow and an Alpha Omega Alpha Research Fellow. In these roles, Dr. Yun worked on translational therapies for drug delivery, the treatment of malignant and benign brain tumors, and worked to advance clinical trials. He completed his residency at The Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, serving as the only chief resident to graduate alone in the history of the program.

Since, he has authored over 20 neurosurgical publications and has given 13 presentations at neurosurgical conferences.

A Ridgewood, NJ native, Dr. Jonathan Yun has always been drawn to the intersection of science, technology, and compassionate care. He graduated with honors from The Johns Hopkins University, earning a degree in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. He completed his neurosurgical training at The Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, serving as the only solo chief resident in the history of the program.

Today, Dr. Yun combines his advanced training and scientific background with a passion for patient-centered care. His judicious approach ensures that every technique and tool in modern spin surgery and neurosurgery is available to deliver meaningful care to his patients.
