We are thrilled to announce the addition of neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Gigante to our Neurosurgeons of New Jersey practice.
Although we’re welcoming him as a new addition, Dr. Gigante is already a familiar face! After graduating from Harvard Medical School he completed his Neurosurgical Residency and Chief Residency at our affiliate Columbia University Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
After his residency he completed a fellowship in functional neurosurgery at Stanford University, which included serving patients with chronic back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, and facial pain syndromes; movement disorders such as Parkinson disease and essential tremor; and understanding unique functional areas of the brain that may be affected by brain tumors or other lesions. In addition, Dr. Gigante specialized in treatment of trigeminal neuralgia with microvascular decompression surgery.
At Stanford University Dr. Gigante studied a unique way of performing deep brain stimulation surgery without using a head frame during the surgery, known as frameless deep brain stimulation. The surgery involves implanting tiny electrodes into the brain, which deliver small currents to a precise area in order to treat disorders like Parkinson disease, essential tremor, and dystonia.
Dr. Gigante then began a general neurosurgical practice near his family and hometown in Minneapolis, where he performed a large volume of cervical and lumbar spine surgery, brain tumor surgery, spinal cord stimulation surgery, and developed a program to expand access to deep brain stimulation surgery to areas in need of neurosurgical resources.
Dr. Gigante will be bringing his depth of experience to a new clinic opening in Livingston as part of the St. Barnabas Ambulatory Care Medical Center. Fellow neurosurgeons Dr. Anderson, Dr. Moise, Dr. D’Ambrosio will also be working with Dr. Gigante at the clinic.
From his home base at St. Barnabas, Dr. Gigante will be serving the areas of Short Hills, Millburn, Maplewood, West Orange, Florham Park, Morristown, and many other communities in the Essex County region.
Dr. Gigante accepts several different types of insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare Empire, United/Oxford, workers compensation, and welcomes new and returning patients at the clinic at 200 South Orange Avenue, Suite 116, Livingston, NJ.
