Now there’s yet another good reason to maintain a healthy weight.
A new study, published last month in Neurology, has found that being overweight increases your chance of having a type of brain tumor called a meningioma.
The researchers reviewed the cases of thousands of patients with meningioma and glioma tumors to see if there is any relationship between these tumors, body mass index (BMI), and physical activity.
They found that obese patients were 54 percent more likely to develop a meningioma than patients at a normal BMI, and that patients who exercise are about 27 percent less likely to develop the tumor.
