The Valley Hospital held its third Annual Neurocritical Care Symposium recently. About 100 nurses, physicians, and other medical staff attended. They came to earn continuing medical education credits, learn about advances in Neurocritical Care and attend talks from several distinguished presenters.
One such presenter was Dr. William Christopher Fox, Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurosurgery at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Fox is based in our Ridgewood office. He has a broad neurosurgical practice with a focus on the treatment of brain tumors, cerebrovascular disease, and the spine.
Dr. Fox also has years of experience caring for patients with traumatic or neurocritical injuries. In fact, he spent several years as a neurosurgeon in the US Navy. At the Valley Hospital symposium, Dr. Fox shared this expertise and gave an hour-long presentation about neurological emergencies.
Dr. Fox was happy to come in and speak to other medical professionals about such important issues. “It is the nature of neurosurgical illness that much of the treatment we provide cannot be done without a strong critical care team. The critical care capability at Valley Hospital is excellent,” he says, and symposia like this are one reason why. “Conferences like this keep all health care providers up-to-date on advances for our patients.”
Past topics at this symposium have included seizures, stroke, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, spinal cord injury, brain tumor management, and the neurocritical care patient.
