Neurosurgeon Dr. William Christopher Fox has been asked to serve on the Joe Niekro Foundation Board and to spearhead their medical advisory board.
Joe Niekro was a successful pitcher in the major leagues for more than 20 years. He unfortunately suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2006 and passed away at the age of 61. His daughter started the Joe Niekro Foundation to raise awareness and funds for aneurysm research and treatment. Their mission is stated below:
Our goal is to raise awareness about aneurysm factors, causes, treatments and research. Funds are used to educate the public about brain aneurysms, to support patients and families, and to develop awareness programs and educational materials for hospitals, clinics and other institutions nationwide.–Joe Niekro Foundation
Dr. Fox is well suited to this foundation: He specializes in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms and has a background in collegiate and professional athletics.
“The Joe Niekro Foundation does an excellent job of recognizing the legacy of an outstanding human being while working to increase awareness of brain aneurysms, and I’m honored to be a part of such an important mission,” said Dr. Fox.
