Dr. Dorothea Altschul has no shortage of interests and specialties.
She is an interventional neurologist that specializes in treating acute neurological diseases, using minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Altschul also works to raise awareness of stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases. In addition, she is a dedicated researcher.
Her commitment to keeping a high standard of safety and ethics in researching has led her to seek certification from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, and now she has it. Dr. Altschul is officially a Certified Principal Investigator (CPI).
A Principal Investigator monitors, supervises, or designs clinical trials and accepts responsibility for the safe and ethical conduct of a clinical trial. They must also hold a doctoral level degree. To become a Certified Principal Investigator, an individual must demonstrate proficiency in research-related knowledge and skills, and must also pass a standardized exam.
The CPI certification is an acknowledgment that a PI has met the Academy of Clinical Research Professionals’ standards for ethically sound and safe research.
Dr. Altschul’s practice focuses on using minimally-invasive techniques to treat vascular disorders of the brain and spinal cord, such as various types of acute strokes, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cerebral hemorrhage and cerebrovascular disease. She has research interests in the areas of acute stroke, critical care neurology, and cognitive dysfunction in the elderly.
