Dr. Dorothea Altschul has passed along a lovely thank-you recently received by our Physician Assistant Andrew Kuiken. The letter was written by a patient successfully treated at Valley Hospital for a ruptured aneurysm by Dr. Altschul and Dr. Gaetan Moise with the help of Mr. Kuiken. Here is an excerpt from the letter:
“You [Kuiken] are the greatest and… you took fantastic care of me!I don’t know if I thanked you for helping me through the burst aneurysm and related surgeries. But, THANK YOU! I do not remember too much about my time at Valley but I do remember that I was not always very polite and cooperative and that you always checked on me and always made me smile and laugh! I really appreciate all of your help. You folks kept me alive! I really appreciate that! Thanks!”
As a Physician Assistant, Mr. Kuiken works in collaboration with attending physicians caring for adult and pediatric neurosurgical patients in the hospital. His responsibilities include performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, performing procedures, assisting in surgery, providing patient education and counseling and managing all other aspects of care within the hospital in conjunction with the physicians.
