Pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Richard Anderson, helped an 11-year-old girl who loves basketball more than just about anything else. Dr. Anderson treated Marina, who suffers from cerebral palsy, using a procedure called selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) in which nerve roots in the spinal cord are severed.
And now Marina is able to play!
There is a beautiful telling of this story on a few media outlets. Take a look at Marina’s story on CBSNews here.
Some more great news for Marina: Soon she will be heading out to Los Angeles to watch her favorite basketball player, Kobe Bryant.
